Journey vs Destination

Have you ever had one of those days where you dread going to a certain meeting because nothing ever gets accomplished? How about waking up with a little knot in your stomach because you know you have to interact with a certain co-worker? It is amazing how these interactions can consume our thoughts and distract us from focusing on more important or enjoyable activities or interactions. Sometimes that meeting or interaction with the co-worker is as bad as you think it will be. Oftentimes it is not, but the worry and stress we put on ourselves is draining.

When I have those moments, I try to recalibrate my thinking with a quote from my parents. Years ago they gave me a leadership book. The content of the book was good, but what I cherish is their handwritten note in the beginning of the book. It helps me realize that with our limited time on this planet, I need to enjoy the ride, focusing on all that is good, focusing on my relationships, and realizing that these annoying interactions are only annoying because I allow them to be.
